Wardandi is a clan of the Noongar Nation in

southwestern Western Australian. The clan’s

traditional land extends southwest from

Bunbury’s Cape Leeuwin along the coast

to Geograph Bay through to the vicinity of

Nannup and Busselton.

There are thought to be 3 dialects in the

Noongar Nation and Wardandi belongs to

the southwestern dialect, Kongal-marawar.

There are very few speakers who are fluent.

Most people have a passive or a partial

understanding of the language of this area.

Sporadic language recording and analysis

was undertaken by pastoralists and linguists

in years gone by. However, further research

continues to retrieve and develop a substantial

database of the language and all clans of the

Southwest.

Ongoing research has resulted in archival

retrieval to develop a substantial database of

the language and all clans of the Southwest.

At present there are two published dreaming

stories representative of the Wardandi clan.

Wardandi’s AIATSIS code is W3.
