Balardong Clan Plaque

Balardong is a Noongar clan of the southwest

of WA located around the York district and

east of Tammin, Kununoppin, Waddouring Hill

and Bencubbin. The clan land extends north

along the Avon River to Toodyay, Goomalling,

Wongan Hills and northward to Kalannie.

It extends south to Pingelly and Wickepin

and through to the western boundary of the

Darling Scarp.

Balardong people speak the northern dialect,

Djiraly, of the Noongar language. The people

are mostly non-fluent speakers who have

a partial or passive understanding of the

language.

Work on the Noongar language’s recording

and analysis for many years, was undertaken

by pastoralists and linguists. Further

research continues to retrieve and develop a

substantial language database of all clans of

the southwest.
