Wilman is a clan of the Western Australian
Southwest Noongar Nation. The traditional
land for this clan extended from Wagin,
Narrogin and Williams rivers west to Collie,
Wuraming north to Gnowing, Dattening,
and Pingelly, east to Wickepin, Dudinin and
Lake Grace, and south to Nyabiny (Nampup),
Katanning, Woodanilling and Duranilling.
Wilman is one of several clans associated
with 3 existing dialects in the Noongar nation.
Wilman people speak the southwestern dialect
Kongal-marawar, of the Noongar language.
Most people are non-fluent speakers who
have a partial or passive understanding of the
language.
Sporadic language recording and analysis
was undertaken by pastoralists and linguists
in years gone by. However, further research
continues to retrieve and develop a substantial
database of the language and all clans of the
Southwest.
